HERE AT CAMBRIDGESHIRE GRITTING, AS WELL AS GUARANTEEING SNOW CLEARANCE AND A WINTER GRITTING SERVICE WHICH IS SECOND-TO-NONE, WE ALSO ENSURE THAT WE KEEP OUR CLIENTS UPDATED THROUGHOUT THE WINTER MONTHS, USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY.
THE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT IS A HIGH PRIORITY OF OUR BUSINESS.
ENVIRONMENT
We are especially aware of our obligations to protect the natural environment we all work and live in. As such, we have implemented the following standards to reduce our environmental impact:
- Use of modern gritter machinery with the ability to adjust spread widths, avoiding over-spreading into unnecessary areas like watercourses.
- Variable-rate functionality means we can adjust the application rate to suit conditions.
- We source our salt from a local company – reducing the environmental impact of emissions from transportation.
- Salt and grit are generally stored undercover – reducing residue leaching into the ground and/or watercourses.
- We are reducing our carbon footprint by holding more virtual meetings and therefore reducing our fleet of vehicles travelling across the UK.
- Battery Operated Vehicles are becoming more advanced… so watch this space for investment into battery-operated vehicles and gritters.
We pride ourselves on our high level of service, knowledge, in-house operations, and competitive pricing structure. Grit happens… see what our clients have to say.
TECHNOLOGY
GPS tracking is utilised on all our vehicles, enabling us to provide our customers with real-time information on the progress of their jobs, as well as historical data. It also allows us, in the office, to monitor the progress of the gritting vehicles throughout the shift and be aware of any potential delays so that we can implement contingency procedures.
Each operative has a tablet device, with our in-house app for recording important site information. This also ensures we can provide precise reporting facilities to our clients, ensuring that their organisation is kept safe throughout inclement weather. Our innovative app also monitors potential road incidents, ensuring our vehicles do not get held up in traffic/road closures. We keep a constant eye on technological innovations and are looking at numerous ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
MACHINERY
Part of our successful operation is down to our winter gritting and snow clearance machines and equipment. Here at Cambridgeshire Gritting, we only use the very best of British-built machinery, with a fleet of Econ and Vale gritting and snow clearance machines. All our modern vehicles are highly maintained to ensure gritting reliability and efficiency.
We continually invest in innovative technology, and our fleet is expanding yearly. We have various sized salt spreaders available – including 4 x 4’s, lorries, tractors and trailers, which suit a diverse range of sites, depending on the size and accessibility of the area to be gritted.
EFFICIENCY
All our gritters have automated ‘in-cab’ controls, allowing our skilled operators to alter spread width, salt application rate and direction of salt at all times during spreading, ensuring that every area of your site is gritted regardless of size or shape, minimising any waste. We are conscious of reducing our environmental impact, which is why we continuously invest in state-of-the-art technology, ensuring efficiency at all times.
SNOW CLEARANCE
As part of our winter maintenance services, we are highly skilled in snow clearance. From mechanical snow clearing, using tractors, loaders and snowploughs, through to manual shovels. If snow falls, we call upon our extensive network of Nationwide Partner agriculturalists, who are deployed from various locations throughout the country to assist with our operation. Whatever the weather throws at us, we always ensure we arrive at your site with the best fit machinery for the job in hand, in any weather presented to us.
OUR GRIT
We use high-quality, sustainable white marine salt that we sourced from a local importation company giving us full traceability. Cambridgeshire Gritting has an excellent relationship with our salt and grit suppliers, which means we are a priority customer.
Brown rock salt can also be used upon client request and is our backup solution when white salt is in high demand or out of stock through hazardous conditions.
As part of our complete gritting and winter maintenance service, we can supply grit bags, loose salt and salt bins, as well as undertake the refilling of your bins.
THE MET OFFICE
Throughout the winter season, we monitor the weather 24/7 using the industry leaders in forecasting –The Met Office. The Met Office operates a traffic light system – Red Alert, being high risk of ice and/or snow, down to Green Alert, being no risk of ice and/or snow.
This is a comprehensive service that we pay for and is postcode specific to your individual site/s, which allows us to give you an accurate and reliable service. Each morning the Met Office data feeds into our system to identify the risk thresholds for our clients. The risks identified can be a combination of Road Surface Temperatures (RST), frost, ice or snow. The data is then analysed against each company’s requirements, and any risks will automatically notify our clients of the intended service that evening.
We can also look at the long-range forecast well ahead of inclement weather to ensure we are never caught out.
